The name Bengal cat comes from felis benglaensis, the Latin name for Asian Leopard cat. The Bengal cat is a distinct, unique breed of cat caused from the crossing of a domestic cat, which displays the stunning look of the forest dwelling leopard cat. The 1st generation of Bengals are domestic leopard cat hybrids. F1-cat has an Asian Leopard parent, usually sire and a domestic parent. F2 has an f1 mother and a domestic sire....and the f3 has an f2 mother and a domestic sire. Males are usually infertile while the females of these generations are used as foundation stock of the domestic Bengal. |
